What is Turnitin?
- An assignment collection, grading, and feedback tool
- An online collaborative learning tool where students can get feedback from their classmates
- Assists faculty in detecting and preventing plagiarism
- Quickly identifies how much material in a student's paper is available on the Internet
- Turnitin's database includes billions of internet documents, archived internet data that is no longer available on the live web, a local repository of previously submitted papers, and subscription repository of periodicals, journals, and publications
- Deters students who may otherwise be tempted to use sources inappropriately
- Helps faculty address the issue of proper citation
- Quickly identifies how much material in a student's paper is available on the Internet
- Does not replace the need for instructors to evaluate matches and grade papers
- Does not detect plagiarism. Rather, it helps identify a possible problem.
- The Similarity Index does not tell instructors whether a paper is plagiarized!

How to Access Turnitin
How to Access Turnitin
Turnitin is an available tool within Blackboard.
- The 'Turnitin Assignments' link can be found under the Course Tools section of the Control Panel.
- If that link is not there, you will need to add the Turnitin tool to your course by clicking on 'Tool Availability' under the Customization section of the Control Panel.
