process

Process (127)

This broad category refers to any terms that specified how distance education is to take place. This includes methods of course approval, considerations on when to offer courses, and avenues for the resolution of distance education related problems. The broadness of the Process category makes it the most frequently occurring in this study, with 127 instances. Many contracts have multiple terms related to process. It is not a mandatory or prohibited term for bargaining.

The AAUP recommends addressing issues of process in faculty contracts. In doing so, it recommends that institutions use the same procedure for distance education courses as they do for any other course (AAUP, undated).

Examples

Observations. Process is an area that, while appropriate for contractual negotiation, is addressed with equal appropriateness in institutional policy. Thus, despite the frequency of its appearance, institutions may have distance education processes not mentioned in their contracts.
