I think as we talk about making a home, we need certain principles, we
need certain skills, and the lack of homemaking skills—and I don’t just
mean baking bread—has created, I think, an emotional homelessness that
has some of the very same byproducts as street homelessness. People who
do not have a place to go that has the Spirit, that has the emotional
stability, that has the principles that we’ve been talking about, have
a lot of the same problems of despair, of turning to drugs or
immorality, that street homeless people have. And we have an
opportunity, mothers and fathers working together, to create an
environment, to be home
makers, to create an environment that will make a home. Home is not just a place; it’s a feeling, and it’s a spirit.

About me: I live in Oxon Hill, MD. My husband is a researcher at the Naval Research Lab and I am a stay-at-home mom. I have a masters degree in mechanical engineering from Purdue University, and a BSME from Utah State University. And no, I'm not looking for a job, thanks for asking anyway. I have 3 children - Lige (7), Ellis (5) and Lillian (3). I have been a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints all my life, and become more convinced each day that the church really does have the fullness of the Gospel, just as in the days of Christ himself. I like playing with my computer, sewing, reading the "free events" page on the Washington Post and shopping at Home Depot.
I served as a missionary in Quezon City, Philippines for 18 months before I was married, and love all things Filipino. Here in Maryland, we have a Tagalog Sunday school class that I get to attend, a Filipino market down the street from me, and a Filipino retirement home less than a mile away. And to think that I used to feel like Tagalog was not a very useful language to speak!
