The students at Troy Middle School and Troy South Middle School are Connected Learners, everyday our goals are to learn how to communicate with others in our modern world, develop an understanding of world cultures and become change-making global citizens . To achieve our learning goal it takes more than a teacher and students in the classroom, it takes the global community.

As we work to achieve our objective the learning on our classroom can take on many different forms. Below you will find summary of each grade level.

6th Grade-Exploring Cultures:

In 6th Grade, we are introduced to World Cultures. We look at what makes up cultures, how a culture develops and how cultures diffuse around the world. During 6th grade we also make our first Global Connections using the platforms of Belouga, Flipgrid and postcard/letter exchanges. We make Global Connections to learn about the difference cultures, increase our global understandings and learning, and examine issues and problems from multiple viewpoints. At the end of each quarter the 6th grade classes create a personalize package to send a class of their choice. This package contains items we believed the students: need, enjoy and shows a little about the personality of our classroom.

7th Grade-Exploring Spanish:

In 7th grade our study focuses in on Latin America. We start out the course by looking at the Geography of Latin American and discover why the region is called Latin America. Next we learn basic phrases in Spanish and compare the new words to English. We look at the root words that might be similar to English and the difference between translate to and equals to. We use a variety of digital tools to connect with learners around Latin American and engage with in way that broaden our cultural understanding and help in language communication. We begin our journey of begin our journey of global citizenship by becoming Global Problems Solvers. Using collaborative technologies and the "internet of things" we work collaboratively on team projects to examine global issues and problems from multiple viewpoints and investigate solutions.

8th Grade-Exploring French:

In 8th grade our study focus is on French Speaking countries. We start out the course by finding all the different that has French at the Official Language or 2nd language around the world and discover why the countries speak the French language. Next we learn basic phrases in French and compare the new words to English. We look at the root words that might be similar to English and the difference between translate to and equals to. We use a variety of digital tools to connect with learners around that speak French and engage with in way that broaden our cultural understanding and help in language communication. We continue your journey to become better global citizenship by taking on a passion project for quarter. Using collaborative technologies and the "internet of things" we work to examine global issues and problems from multiple viewpoints and investigate solutions.
