Leah Barkan's Legacy

Leah Barkan

(May 6, 1925- Feb. 24, 2017)

was a vital & preeminent musical force at

Country Dancers of Westchester.

She shaped our musicians in myriad ways,

gave our callers incalculable support,

and provided the wings for our dancing feet.

(1925 - 2017)

Fried de Metz Herman treasured the musicians with whom she worked

and acknowledged their role in her creativity.

She honored Leah with two dances in particular:

the now-classic "Leah's Waltz" and the

more challenging "Ode to the Pianist."

"Leah's Waltz"

"Leah's Waltz" uses Bob McQuillen's tune "Amelia" and

Jay Ungar's beloved "Ashokan Farewell."

"Ode to the Pianist"

Fried's more-challenging dance (for both pianist and dancers!)

is introduced here by Leah herself.
