Prayers

There are many things you can do in this life that will lead you to experience better conditions in the hereafter. However these are not always well known or often thought of. In general the more you can do for others and the more effort you make to develop yourself spiritually, the better will be the conditions you find yourself in in the hereafter. Since these things may be important for your future state, it cannot hurt to ask for help and guidance with them. The prayers listed here are suggestions that relate to helping others or developing yourself.

An important principle of prayer is that you will receive help in proportion to the effort you make. Therefore it is wisest to ask for guidance to show you how to do something, when appropriate, rather than to ask that something be done for you.

Oh God,

Please watch over me and protect me so that only the highest and best forces can influence me.

Please come into me and into my life and guide me so that my actions will be for the highest good.

Please help me to understand the plan and purpose of my life and guide me to learn the lessons and fulfill the purposes for which I have incarnated.

Please move healing energy through me to where it is needed for the highest good.

[And/Or] Please move healing energy through me to ___ to give them healing for their highest good.

Fill in the blank with the name or names of people who you desire to receive healing. This is a powerful prayer with important consequences. It identifies you as someone who wishes to be a spiritual worker. It will attract spirit guides who will help you with your spiritual unfoldment so that you may become a better spiritual worker.

Praying for the "highest good" is generally preferable to praying for a specific outcome. Even though you may desire the highest good to occur you may not know what the highest good is. For example, sometimes a medical condition may be necessary for the spiritual development of the afflicted person. In these cases a cure is not the best thing for them. The highest good is often hard to discern in national and international affairs. For example, in international conflicts, some people may pray for peace and others may pray for victory. Another example involves the two leaders Abraham Lincoln and Mahatma Gandhi. Both are considered highly evolved souls who were leaders during times of conflict. They each used different methods that were appropriate for their situation. It can be hard for individuals living through conflicts to accurately discern what the correct thing to do is. The conflicting prayers of people with different opinions on what is best will have less effect than if everyone prays for the same thing. It is more effective for everyone to work together praying for the highest good while allowing a higher power determine what the highest good is.

Fill in the blank with the thing you seek assistance with. Since spiritual assistance is offered in proportion to the effort you make, asking for help or guidance on how to do something is one of the most powerful prayers you can make because you are indicating your willingness to do the work.

Please help all those in darkness in this world and in the hereafter. Please help them to understand their mistakes, please help them to atone, and please ease their suffering.

There are many spiritual beings who desire to help suffering humanity but they cannot help us unless we ask. Since many are too ignorant to ask for help for themselves, it is always a good way to help others by asking on their behalf. Also see Spirit Rescue.

Please show me how I can improve my mind to make it fit for the higher spheres.

Improving one's "mind" refers thinking charitably about other people and avoiding condemning or judging others. It is better to try to understand why people do the things they do. For example, if something upsets you, you should certainly not suppress thoughts about it but, for example, rather than thinking: "that person is a *!@#$" you might simply observe: "that person did ___ and I am reacting angrily". Please show me the ways to help others that are right for me.

It is always good to help others. However God makes many different types of people because there are many different tasks that need to be done. Each person can help others in a unique way. Some people will do this through their careers or volunteer work, some will find many ways to help others through the ordinary contacts with friends, family, coworkers and the other people they meet each day. Sometimes self-development is just as important so that one can help others better in the future.
