Retention Indexes

Boiling points (b.p.) for several alkanes are: hexane, 69^oC; heptane, 98^oC; octane, 126^oC; nonane, 151^oC; decane, 174^oC; undecane, 196^oC.

Retention indexes for straight-chain alkanes do not vary with stationary phase: hexane, 600; heptane, 700; octane, 800; nonane, 900; decane, 1000; undecane, 1100.
