Central Regional's Fallen Heroes

PVT Robert Edward Church was born Dec 27, 1946 and was reported KIA on May 16, 1968.  PVT Church lived in Lakehurst, was an alumnus of the class of 1967, and served in the US Marine Corps.  Robert was mortally wounded while defending his platoon in Vietnam.  He was awarded the Bronze Star for heroism with the Combat "V" designation and the Purple Heart posthumously amongst other medals received for his service to our country.

PFC William Walter Hester was born on May 10, 1949 and was reported KIA on July 1, 1968.  PVC Hester lived in Manitou Park, was an alumnus of the class of 1967, and served in the US Marine Corps.  William was mortally wounded by the N. Vietnamese while defending his battalion under assault.  He was awarded the Silver Star for heroism and the Purple Heart posthumously amongst other medals for his service to our country.  The class of 1969 dedicated their yearbook to both Robert Church and William Hester.

CWO George Phillip Berg was born on July 16, 1946 and was reported MIA/remains not found, on Feb. 18, 1971. CWO Berg lived in Lakehurst, was an alumnus of the class of 1965, and served in the US Army. George was listed as MIA on Feb. 18, 1971 while on a highly classified emergency patrol extraction mission. George was listed later designated as KIA. Due to the heavy enemy concentration, his body was never recovered and could not be buried in honor at home. He received the Silver Star for gallantry in action & the Purple Heart posthumously amongst other medals for his service to our country.

SGT John A. Lyons was born on Dec. 4, 1984 and was KIA on October 26, 2011.  Sgt Lyons lived in Seaside Park, was an alumnus of the class of 2003, and served in the US Army.  John died of wounds suffered when insurgents in Afghanistan attacked his unit using small fire arms.  He was the recipient of the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart posthumously amongst other medals received for serving his country.

CPL. Christopher M. Monahan Jr. was born June 29, 1987 and was KIA on November 26, 2012 in Boldack, Helmand Province of Afghanistan.  Cpl. Monahan lived in Island Heights, was an alumnus of the class of 2005 and he joined the Marine Corp in 2006.
