Places I've worked or studied at:

Links for interesting softwares:

    • Radia, a software developed in the Insertion device group, at the ESRF (European Synchrotron Radiation Facility). This is an excellent magnetostatics modelisation package, highly appropriate for permanent magnet structures. It is interfaced with Mathematica for pre-processing and post-processing.

Magnet manufacturers (non exhaustive):

    • VAC (Vacuumschmelze, one of the most capable magnet manufacturers in terms of magnetic reliability, dimension tolerances and dimension span, also among the most expensive)
    • Arnold (Arnold Magnetic Technologies. Swiss company also offering very good capabilities)
    • Hitachi metals (we haven't interacted much with these guys, but they have a good reputation)
    • Atlas magnetics (less expensive but with less capability, still good quality)
    • TE2M (french company proposing diverse services ranging from engineering to testing)
    • Supermagnete (They only sell standard magnets bought in bulks, no precise specifications. This is for quick and dirty stuff. Really cheap, but special care must be taken to obtain useful field profiles)

Places where you can magnetize magnetic pieces:

Most serious manufacturer can magnetize parts. However, they usually refuse to do it with parts that are not their own. You can find some help in the following places (in France).
