September 25, 2010, 8:30 am-2:00 pm: Community Yard Sale

Clear out those old "treasures" from your attic and maybe pick up a few new ones! There is no fee for participating. We ask only that you leave your space clean at the end of the sale. The yard sale will be held at Carole Highlands Elementary (Hannon St & 16th Ave).

September 25, 2010, 9:00-11:00: Sweep the Creek

Before you drop by the yard sale, consider taking part in the semi-annual cleanup of Sligo Creek. The Creek and surrounding park are one of the greatest features of our neighborhood, and we can make a difference in keeping it beautiful. Meet at Hillwood Manor Park.

May 11, 2010, 7:00-8:15 PM, Block Captain meeting - Neighborhood Watch

There will be a meeting for Block Captains on Tues. May 11th from 7:00 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. We will meet at Jeff & Karen Cronin's house: 7217 15th Ave.(corner of 15th Ave. & Elson St.) Dottie McNeill will join us to discuss the role of block captains as it pertains to neighborhood watch. We will have an agenda and will end the meeting with consensus on our goals, priorities and tasks.

May 4, 2010: Neighborhood Safety Meeting

Council Member Campos' office organized a meeting at the elementary school with Prince George's County Police Chief Roberto Hylton and delegates Victor Ramirez and Jolene Ivey. The chief couldn't make it, but he sent Deputy Chief Blow, acting District 1 commander Pacheco, Cpl. Shawn Cooke, and other officials from the department to hear the neighborhoods concern about residential breakins and other issues.

April 18, 2010, 9:00-11:00 AM: Neighborhood clean sweep

Meet your neighbors and help make Carole Highlands a little cleaner! We will provide bags and gloves to help you pick up litter from the neighborhood streets. We'll also provide a dumpster over the entire weekend (April 17-18) for you to get rid of bulky trash. Meet at the intersection of Drexel and Sligo Creek Parkway East between 9:00 and 11:00 to for coffee & doughnuts and for your cleanup assignment.

Note: This is a great opportunity to get rid of old boxes of junk and furniture! However, there are some restrictions on bulky trash permitted in the dumpster. Not permitted are automobile fluids, paints, electronics containing lead, and major household appliances. We will have information available for how to dispose of these items.

April 1, 2010: Neighborhood watch organizational meeting

Given enthusiastic interest of many Carole Highlanders, we're going ahead with plans to form a Neighborhood Watch. The primary role of the watch will be to share important crime & safety issues quickly through a network of block captains. Our goal is to develop a watch that makes our neighborhood safer and friendlier without taking up much of anyone's time. Please come and provide your input. Wednesday, March 24, 2010, 7:00-9:00 pm: Neighborhood safety meeting

We will be holding a meeting with our 'beat cop', Shawn Cooke, and a County Detective to discuss what's being done about the recent break-ins and how we can make our community safer in general. Dottie McNeill will also be there to discuss what we can do to establish an effective Neighborhood Watch.

Please come! Please let your neighbors know! The larger a group that shows up, the more the County will listen to our needs and the more we can accomplish as a community.

The meeting will be held at the Carole Highlands Elementary School (1610 Hannon Street).

Sunday, February 21, 2010, 6:00 pm: CHNA party

With the recent growing interest in the CHNA we've decided to host a casual get-together at Jeff Cronin's house (7217 15th Ave) where we'll have a chance to get to know each other a little better and talk about plans for the next year. We'll provide light refreshments. Please bring friends and family! And feel free to bring your favorite snack to share. See you there!

January 27, 2010: CHNA meeting

Regular meetings are held on the third Wednesday of each month at 7:30 pm at Jeff Cronin's house (7217 15th Ave). All are welcome! This month we will discuss plans for establishing a neighborhood watch program and for organizing block captains to share important information across the neighborhood.

January 20, 2010: Community meeting at Carole Highlands Elementary

Meet with our County Council representative, Will Campos, our County Police contact, Cpl. Cooke, and members of the CHNA board to talk about neighborhood safety, improvements at the Langley Park/Takoma Crossroads, and any other issue that matters to you. The meeting begins at 7:00 pm at the Carole Highlands Elementary (1610 Hannon Street).

October 17, 2009: Annual Neighborhood Clean Sweep

Help keep Carole Highlands litter free and get to know your neighbors at the same time! We'll meet at 9 am in Hillwood Manor Park to warm up with coffee and doughnuts. Then we'll provide gloves and trash bags and branch out to collect litter from the neighborhood streets and parks. Our neighborhood liaison from the Prince George's Police Department, Cpl. Cooke, will also be present to answer your questions about crime and safety. (Event runs 9-11 am.)

August 4, 2009: National Night Out

Our local police contact, Cpl. Cooke, invites the community to The Mall At Prince George's for National Night Out . It will be held on August 4th, between the hours of 12 noon and 6:00pm. The Mall will have many fun filled events planned. There will be games, give-aways, Emergency Service Displays/Information, Health Screenings, entertainment and other fun things going on. June 21, 2009: Potluck neighborhood picnic.

The CHNA is planning a potluck community picnic on Sunday June 21 (rain date June 28) from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the cul-de-sac near 16th Avenue and Erskine Street (map).

We are asking neighbors to bring a their own meat and drinks as well as bring a small dish to share with everyone. If you have portable tables and chairs and/or a grill that you can bring, that would be great. The Association will provide grills, plates, napkins, utensils, condiments, coolers, ice, and good cheer!

We are also looking for volunteers to help set up before the picnic and clean up after. Also, if you have games or ideas for games that kids can play, please bring them!
