What We Believe

Grace and Peace in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ! Buxton UMC is a Christ-centered church, where we are glad to have you with us and to share the Good News of God’s love in Jesus Christ with you. If you are new to the area or a long time resident and looking for a church home, we highly recommend this one!

What is Buxton United Methodist Church?

We are a community of faith seeking to follow Christ, and to worship God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit, while reaching out to Buxton and the World with God's Love in Christ through word and deed!

So, what do folks at Buxton UMC do?

We serve our community in a variety of ways, by collecting for the Buxton Food Cupboard, through prayer and Bible study, through our greater United Methodist connection, and through countless other acts of kindness and giving by members of our community.

Oh... and we have a Sunday School, too...

Sunday School for children meets prior to Sunday service during the school year, and is well organized by our capable Sunday School Superintendent and teachers.

If you're a bit older and want an opportunity to study God's word with us, we have Bible Study for adults every Wednesday at 9:00am (and there are always snacks). We also have an adult Bible study that runs concurrently with the Sunday School.

We hope both will be a beacon of the Light of Christ to Buxton and the World. We would love to see you there!

So what does it mean to be United Methodist, you ask?

That is a great question -- Buxton United Methodist Church is a Christian fellowship, and as United Methodist Christians we are called together to serve Christ in our communities. With all Christians, we believe in the Triune God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and that through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, God and human beings can be reconciled and brought into loving relationship.

What's different about United Methodists?

The United Methodist Church comes from the Methodist and Evangelical United Brethren traditions, both of which have long histories in North America. On our Methodist side, we trace our heritage to John and Charles Wesley, brothers and Anglican priests in the 1700's who were significant in a major revival in England that gave birth to Methodism. Our EUB heritage comes from German preachers in America influenced by Methodism and German Pietism.
