CFE Summer Empirical Workshop

CFE Summer Empirical Workshop 2022

For the sixth consecutive year, I will be organizing the CFE Summer Empirical Workshop. The goal is to expose graduate students in economics to new tools and methods in the field. Expert guest lectures, both from WVU and from universities across the country present in the program. Each year the specific topics adjust but the goal is to expose students to a wide variety of methods that they may not see in their standard coursework. The ultimate goal is to produce better research (so that better dissertations are written and job prospects improve).

This year we will hold the workshop on Zoom. Rather than have full day events, shorter sessions (2-3 hours in length) will be delivered over 2 weeks. This year, the workshop will run from July 25 to August 5. We are now taking applications. We limit the number of participants to encourage a closer interaction between the lecturers and the participants.

If you are interested in applying, please register HERE by May 31, 2022. Those selected will be notified in June.

This year's program will cover:

  • Introduction to R

  • Web scraping and web crawling

  • Text analysis methods

  • Causal inference: difference-in-difference, synthetic control, regression discontinuity

  • Experimental methods

  • Field experiments

  • Robustness & sensitivity

  • ... and more!
