The Bruno Arts Bank located at 531 Main St. in Bruno Saskatchewan was established with the help of many volunteers by Tyler Brett in May 2010. The two story 2,400 square foot heritage building built in 1917 - formerly the Dominion Bank, Royal Bank & Conexus Insurance, now renamed “The Arts Building” - officially opened October 16th 2010 as the home of an artist run residency and presentation venue. The Bruno Arts Bank Residency occupies the former bank manager living quarters located on the second floor of the Arts Building and is available to artists, musicians, writers & performers to use as a studio/living space environment to develop their practice. The residency will be offered for short terms stays typically lasting one to four months. Located one hour east of Saskatoon, artists staying in Bruno will have the opportunity to live in a predominately agricultural community set in a rural Saskatchewan landscape that includes a former Ursuline Convent, an abandoned brick and clay works factory, pioneer homesteads, and protected wild life reserves. In addition to the stage and special event concession stand, the main floor presentation space includes a wunderkammer (cabinet of curiosity) that houses a display of artifacts (collected by Kerri Reid & Tyler Brett) from the former Bruno Clay Works brick factory. Additional cabinets will be added to the main floor in the spring of 2011 and will be made available to guest curators and future artists in residence to use as temporary exhibition space. The main floor of the Arts Bank also includes a vault that will be adapted to use as a publicly accessible collection of local historically significant photographs, artifacts, oddities, and curiosities. The “vault” archive will include projects and collections curated by The Bruno Arts Bank committee, community members and the artist in residence. |
