SCS drafts

Hi Y'all,

The newest three attachments of the Stille & Steelman families (at the bottom of this page) demonstrate two different watermarks in PDFs and a JPG page that is impossible to edit.

This may not be the most effective way to allow Y'all to see this draft of the Vacher Errata and original document with watermark and copy protection, but it is the easiest for me. At the bottom of this page is an attachment "VACHER nearly final.pdf". I've also copied the URL here to VACHER nearly final.pdf.

I have attached the file so that you can download it to your personal computer.

You will observe that there are 18 pages of Cynthia's Errata followed by roughly the same number of original pages of Vacher's Genealogy of the Bankston (Benkestock) Family.

You will probably be unable to change anything, unable to print the document, and unable to copy & paste any section from the document. You will be unable to remove the watermark; the watermark is semi-opaque so that it cannot be made to "disappear" by printing the document very lightly.

John Tepe provided his expert opinion that the watermark "Property of Swedish Colonial Society: www.ColonialSwedes.org, unauthorized distribution prohibited" should inhibit the display of the Craig Collection documents elsewhere on the web.

Now that Cynthia and I have finished this demonstration, the Swedish Colonial Society needs to decide how to charge for the document.

I propose that this version with heavy watermark be made freely visible to any visitors of the SCS website.

For $5 anyone can order an electronic copy with a much lighter watermark but still copy protected.

For $25 and a signed agreement to not post the copy on the web, anyone can order a physical copy with an even lighter watermark; be aware that an unscrupulous "genealogist" can still post a copy of any version elsewhere on the web.

On Oct 22nd I suggested that Bill W. post these documents on the web, visible to the general public, available for download for the fee of $25 with a discounted fee of $5 for members.

There is no need for worry with this document, but the Society needs to decide how & when to take legal action against pirates.

Packaged similarly are about 10 pages of Peter Craig's family group sheets of my direct Rambo ancestors, and another package contains Cynthia's Bankson ancestors, and a third package contains 27 pages about Peter Larsson Cock. I would propose the same pricing for each of those collections.

I would be willing to package similarly Peter Craig's family group sheets of the ancestral lineage of other SCS members. While I am willing to do this for free for our active officers and lifetime members, it might be best to require payment of a $25 fee to assemble the family group sheets for rank and file members.

This kind of project allows the Society to profit financially from the Craig Collection. Once a download is ready, no more work is needed to derive an income. Once people see what is available, more demand will ensue.

Similarly, whenever research into Peter's boxes of correspondence or subject matter provides answers to inquiries, that material can be similarly packaged and made available as another download.
