4-6-0 TYPE - TEN WHEELER TYPE

The Bangor & Aroostock owned 59 4-6-0 Type locomotives, more than any other type. All were built by the Manchester Locomotive Works except Numbers 140-142 which were built by Rhode Island.

CLASS D-1 - consisted of 28 locomotives numbered 50-78 (no #71) with 20x26 inch cylinders and 63 inch drivers built from 1901 to 1907. Five were sold to the Belfast & Moosehead Lake.

D-1 54 was built in 1901 and sold to the B&ML in 1940. Photographed at Derby in 1939.

D-1 58 was built in 1902 and scrapped in 1948. It was photographed on loan to the B&ML in 1937.

B&ML 20 was BAR 60. Built in 1901 and sold in 1940.

CLASS D-2a - consisted of six locomotives numbered 82-87 built in 1907 with 22x26 inch cylinders and 63 inch drivers.

D-2a 85 was scrapped in 1951.

CLASS D-3 - consisted of six locomotives numbered 90-95 built in 1911 with 20x26 inch cylinders and 63 inch drivers. They were delivered with superheaters unlike the older BAR 4-6-0s.

D-3 91 was scrapped in 1951. Shown at Oakfield in 1939.

CLASS Ea -consisted of three locomotives numbered 140-142 built by the Rhode Island Locomotive Works in 1906 with 22 1/2x26 inch cylinders and 63 inch drivers. They were designed for another railroad but the order was cancelled and they went to the BAR.

E-3a 140 was scrapped in 1947. Shown at Northern Maine Jct. in November 1946.

E-3a 141 was scrapped in 1950. Shown at Van Buren in May 1941.

E-3a 142 was scrapped in 1951.

CLASS C-1 - consisted of three locomotives built in 1902 (240-242) and one in 1907 (243) with 19x26 inch cylinders and 69 inch drivers.
