Dear Dr. Zaman,

We are pleased to inform you of an exciting new development for World Development. We have started using Elsevier Editorial System, an online submission and review system which is straight-forward and user-friendly.

With Elsevier Editorial System (EES), the whole submission and review process will be handled electronically. We expect using this system will shorten publication times and have a very positive impact on the journal.

So how does the process work?

Authors submit their article online by simply registering, logging-in, and submitting. Editors will then invite potential reviewers by e-mail. As a Reviewer, if you accept the invitation, you can simply print the PDF from the website and later enter your report online at your own convenience. The next time you are invited to review an article, you will be sent all the necessary information by e-mail.

We have taken the liberty of already registering you on the system as an author and a reviewer. Your username is provided below:

To access your account for the first time, go to the World Development site and click the "Login" button at the top of the screen. Here you will find a link called "Send Username/Password", enter your name and email address and the system will send you your password for our new system.

If you have any objections to your contact details being held on the system, please inform us immediately. After you log in, please click on the "Change details" option on the menu bar at the top of the screen. Please select suitable "Personal Classifications". You may also check that your contact details are up-to-date and change your password or any other information.

To work online as a reviewer, please go to our websitehttp://www.ees.elsevier.com/wd and log-in (select "log in" from the top right of the page), enter your username and password and then click on the "Reviewer Login" button.

Should you wish to submit an article as Author, please use the same log-in information as provided above (including username and password) but click on the "Author Login" button.

TECHNICAL TIPS:

1) Please ensure that your e-mail server allows receipt of e-mails from the domain "elsevier.com", otherwise you may not receive vital e-mails.

2) We would strongly advise that you download the latest version of Acrobat Reader, which is available free at: http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html

3) For first-time users of Elsevier Editorial System, detailed instructions and a 'Tutorial for Reviewers' are available at http://www.ees.elsevier.com/wd
