I've been involved with woodworking ever since I could swing a hammer. I started turning wood in 2005 in high school and my dad and I purchased the lathe pictured on this website in 2006. During breaks from college, I continued to turn different types of wood bowls. My enjoyment of learning about trees and ecological relationships led me to join the lab of Dr. Susan Kalisz. I graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a dual-major B.S. in Microbiology and History & Philosophy of Science in April 2011. Also, I like to bicycle, play the drumset, and play racquetball.
Currently, I am conducting a one-year period of research, volunteering, and traveling as a Rotary Ambassadorial Scholar in Australia. Please see my other website for details about my trip.
I will start medical school at Penn State in August 2012 and will make sure to reserve some time during that period for woodturning.
