Welcome to AMPLINEX 009

Firstly, our apologies for the lateness of this issue (see message below). We hope that the addition of the 'bonus' music disc will go some way to compensate for the delay.

This issue was planned as a 'music' issue so, as well as the 17 pieces of music on the 'bonus' disc, there are a further 13 pieces included on this disc!

In the 'Features' section there is the first of two articles on using mixes, and in the 'Utilities' section there is the fifth of Roger Cawkwell's series on 'Music theory in practice' as well as a utility, courtesy of Music City, which uses the AMPLE BCE waveform design facilities to create new waveforms for the Studio 5000.

That just leaves us space for the regular items such as 'Questions and Answers' and 'Hints and Tips' and for some reviews of the latest music disc releases from Hybrid Technology.

We had planned to include more details about the AMPLINEX 007 survey results but, as results are still coming in, we have postponed this until the next issue. So, to anyone who has still not returned a survey file, please do so as soon as possible.

Now, on with the music...

A message from the editor:

In September I enrolled on a programme of part-time further education, connected with my work. This means that I attend a series of one-week residential courses about once every six weeks. In between the courses there are the usual essays to be written and reading to do. I realised at the time that this, combined with editing the AMPLINEX discs, would take up most of my time, but I thought it could be done.

So far, I have managed to fit both activities in, but occasionally the timing of an AMPLINEX disc release and of one of the courses causes problems. This was the case with this issue which coincided with a course in mid-January.

Since this situation is bound to occur again at some time in the future, I hope that you will bear with us if disc releases are a little late. Whenever possible we will try to anticipate delays and give an accurate date in the 'Next issue news' section, but this may not always be possible.

Whatever the release date, however, we will naturally endeavour to make sure each disc is something worth waiting for!
