About Mrs. McLain

My husband, Greg, and I have been married for over 25 years. We have three wonderful children. Our oldest, Rebecca, married John Merwin (also from Morristown) and they recently had a child: Guy Maverick Merwin. Thomas is busy working at a machine shop fabricating materials for airplanes, medical equipment, and recently prototype space suits. Kaitlin will be graduating from Bucknell University with a bio-medicine degree. She will be joining the Army reserve upon graduation and continuing her studies for a nursing degree.

For the past few years, my family has been improving or helping build a home for those less fortunate in the Appalachian area. Over spring break 2015, we went to Kentucky. During the summers of 2016-2018, we went to West Virginia.

I graduated from Lafayette College in 1991. As a Civil Engineer, I worked for an engineering/ consulting firm that primarily did work for Con Edison of New York. During that time, I conducted several structural inspections, roof inspections, and did some design work on platforms, pipe supports, and the drainage system throughout many of the generating stations, substations and their nuclear plant at Indian Point.

I have served 14 years in the Army Reserve. As a commander in a training unit, I realized that I enjoyed teaching. It was after my service that I decided to pursue a career in teaching.

I began with Morris School District as a substitute while I pursued my Masters in Education. I was hired shortly after into a half-day position. I continued to work on my advanced degree and completed my Masters in Education with Capella University in December 2009. I began teaching science at Alexander Hamilton School in January 2010. I have continued my studies and in 2012 completed 5 science-related graduate courses at Stevens Institute of Technology. I continue to take professional development courses at Montclair University, Rutgers University, Stevens Institute of Technology, Capella University, and from the New Jersey Department of Education.
