Al Amin Shrine Beginnings

The Al Amin Shrine was formed from the Coastal Bend Shrine Club of Alzafar Shrine in San Antonio. The charter was granted in 1973. Our first home was on Alameda in Corpus Christi. In 1980 the current building was completed. The Pavilion was added in the 1990’s. The Al Amin Shrine has six Shrine Clubs throughout South Texas. The Units range from the Clowns to Motorcycles to the Small Cars and many other units that are performing many services for the betterment of our community.

Al Amin Shriners is a part of Shriners International which supports Shriners Hospitals for Children in 22 facilities across the United States, Canada and Mexico. The hospitals provide specialty pediatric care for children with orthopedic conditions such as spinal cord injuries, burns, cleft lip and palate regardless of families ability to pay. There are two Shriners Hospitals for Children in Texas, one in Houston and one in Galveston. There is also one in Shreveport, Louisana. Find information about these hospitals at: http://www.shrinershospitalsforchildren.org/locations.

Al Amin Temple is responsible for the transportation of clients from the Rio Grande Valley, Corpus Christi and Victoria Texas and has outpatient clinics in the Rio Grande Valley.

Shriners International teamed up with actor RJ Mitte (diagnosed with cerebral palsey) to create a program for bullying of children called "CutTheBullNow". Children with physical disabilities are twice as likely to be bullied, impacting their educational, emotional and physical development. Find out more information at: http://www.CutTheBullNow.org

Another program was started to prevent children from being burned and it is called "Be Burn Aware". Free activity books and posters are available at: http://www.BeBurnAware.org

Shriner's Creed

Shriners believe in God and that He created man to serve His purpose, among which is service to others in His name.

We believe that care for the less fortunate, especially children who suffer burns and crippling diseases, is our institutional calling.

We are patriots, willing to serve our country with fidelity and courage. We cherish independence under law and freedom with responsibility.

We honor family. We respect our parents, wives and children. We should instill in our children the tenets of this creed, and the heritage from which it eminates.

As individuals we pledge ourselves to integrity, virtue and nobility of character. Our intentions will be honorable, our relations will be trustworthy and our spirits forgiving of each other.

As brothers we offer each other fraternal affection and respect. Together we will support each other in adherence to this creed, so that we and our communities will be better because of our fraternity and its principles.

As Shriners we look beyond ourselves to serve the needs of others, especially children who cannot help themselves. We believe Shriners Hospital to be the world's greatest philanthropy, and we covenant with each other to support its "temples of mercy" with spirit, time, talent and means.
