2024 Spring Conference of Korean Society for Environmental Analysis at Busan (April 4-5, 2024)
AWTRL members attended the 2024 Spring Conference of Korean Society for Environmental Analysis, Busan from April 4-5, 2024. It was a very short trip but a little fun for us to be relaxed.
Special Guest, Dr. Laura Clarizia, Editor of Chemical Engineering Journal, (University of Naples "Federico II") in the AWTRL, INHA University (March 28th, 2024)
My friend Dr. Laura Clarizia, Editor of Chemical Engineering Journal, visited INHA University last Thursday and gave us her talk on "Strategies for enhancing hydrogen production through photocatalytic treatment of wastewater over semiconductor-based nanomaterials." I met her in 2016, 8 years ago, when I was a postdoc in EPA, Cincinnati. Time flies~~~!! We will meet again in Cyprus and Denver this year.
2024 Joint Conference of Korean Society on Water Environment and Korean Society of Water & Wastewater, Daejeon, South Korea (March 21-22, 2024)
AWTRL members attended the 2024 Joint Conference of Korean Society on Water Environment and Korean Society of Water & Wastewater, Daejeon from March 21-22, 2024. It was a very short trip but a little fun for us to be relaxed.
2024 Commencement (February 16th, 2024)
Gwangmin and Jungyeon graduated and were awarded Mater of Science this year. Many congratulations and I hope they dream come true one day.
2023 Group dinner to close the year of 2023 (December 20th, 2023)
Had a great time with AWTRL members in 2023 group dinner. Good people and good food.
Special Guests, Dr. Daphne Hermosilla (Univesidad Politecnica de Madrid, 마드리드공대) and Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Anazia (King Saud University, 킹사우드대학) in the AWTRL, INHA University (December 4th-9th, 2023)
Special Guests, Dr. Daphne Hermosilla (Univesidad Politecnica de Madrid, 마드리드공대) and Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Anazia (King Saud University, 킹사우드대학) visited the AWTRL, INHA University from December 4th to 9th. They gave us fantastic talks on the water industry in Spain and Saudi Arabia and shared great idea to develop international collaboration together. I hope we meet again in Spain, Saudi Arabia or different countries one day.
Special Guest, Big Sister Dr. Maria Antoniou (Cyprus University of Technology)in the AWTRL, INHA University (November 14th, 2023)
Big sister Maria Antoniou, Assistant Professor at the Cyprus University of Technology, gave my undergraduate and graduate students a great talk on Monitoring and Treatment of Cyanobacteria and their toxins at the INHA University. The MOU between CUT & INHA is on process so INHA students will have good opportunities to study Environmental Engineering at the CUT one day soon. It will be excellent experience for all my students to open their horizon worldwide. Thank you very much, Prof. Maria Antoniou.
2023 Fall Meeting of Korean Society of Environmental Analysis (Gangneung-Si) (November 1st-3rd, 2023)
AWTRL members attended the 2023 Fall meeting of Korean Society of Environmental Analysis in Gangneung-Si from November 1st to 3rd, 2023. Mr. Gwangmin Kim, MS Student, was awarded the Excellent Poster Presenter Award for his presentation on Meropenem degradation by persulfate activation with molybdenum modified ferries.
Dr. Seokjhin Kim, Associate Professor, Oklahoma State University, gave us a talk. (October 5th, 2023)
Dr. Kim visited the AWTRL and gave us a great talk on inorganic membranes for energy and environmental applications. He was a PhD student at Chemical Engineering in the University of Cincinnati (UC) when I was a PhD student at Environmental Engineering at the UC in 2008. Now, we are all associate professors at the OSU and the INHA. Time flies.
2023 ACS Spring meeting, San Francisco, CA, USA (August 12th-August 17th, 2023)
It was a great conference to meet my academic siblings, old friends and collaborators from Cincinnati, Cyprus and Japan. Because of all of you, there was a lot of fun during the conference. My students and I learned and experienced a lot to broaden our horizons. Drs. Mezgebe, Al-Abed, Li, Tegenaw and Nadagouda and MS. Kang (EPA), Drs. Antoniou, Vogiazi, Kong and Dionysiou (my academic siblings and father), Dr. Sharma (Texa A&M), Dr. Kanel (Dayton) and Mr. Tadele (P&G, Cincinnati).
2023 Fall Commencement (Gyumin Song) (August 11th, 2023)
Gyumin Song was awarded her Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Engineering. So proud of you. :)
Dr. Yoontaek Oh visited the AWTRL and gave us a talk (July 27th, 2023)
Dr. Oh presented his recent work on the UV-LED for pathogens inactivation.
2023 AWTRL Membership Training, Daebu island (July 12th-July 13th, 2023)
The first AWTRL member outgoing. We all enjoyed the moment together.
2023 IWA (International Water Association) LET (Leading Edge) Conference on Water and Wastewater Technologies, (Daegu) (May 29th-June 2nd, 2023)
AWTRL members attended the 2023 IWA-LET in Daegu May 30th to June 1st, 2023. Mr. Gwangmin Kim, MS studetn, and Ms. Ayoung Choi, PhD Student, presented their research results during the conference. I also provided AWTRL's research results of ammonia recovery from wastewater facilities with electrodialysis to produce hydrogen. The public wastewater facilities could be transferred to power plants by producing hydrogen with ammonia from wastewater.

AWTRL members attended the 2023 Spring meeting of Korean Society of Environmental Analysis in Jeju island from May 3rd to May 4th, 2023. Ms. Ayoung Choi, PhD Student, was awarded the Excellent Presenter Award for her presentation about UV/Chlorine process for treating carbaryl in water.
2023 ACS Spring meeting, Indianapolis, IN, USA (March 25th-March 30th, 2023)
It was a great conference to meet my old friends and collaborators as well as new members of Dr. Dion's research group. Also, it was glad to organize and chair a symposium with Drs. Imae, Kanel, Nadagouda, Pal, Phenrat, and Chakraborty in the conference.

We all enjoyed the ACS conference and met Drs. Dion, Mallik, Sahle, and Sushil in the conference. Also, I visited my second hometown, Cincinnati and met Dr. Oh and Minghao Kong at University of Cincinnati.
