We cook alot at home and most of it from scratch. We try to buy as many whole foods, beans, legumes,grains, as possible and we try not to buy processed, packaged food, breads, pastas, crackers, chips. It takes more time but we have some techniques to cut down the amount of time we spend in the kitchen daily.

First, we chop finely, a batch of 4-5 onions and store it in a glass container in the refrigerator. We've experiment with both yellow and red onions and use them both. Second, we take 2 whole garlic bulbs, remove the skins and put all the cloves in a blender/grinder with a little water -- we use a Vitamix whichh purees EVERY food
