VCDS DATA LOG ENGINE
This is a guide to making an engine data log using VCDS.
This is the method you want to use if you want to log specific engine measuring blocks.
Don't use this method to log ALL engine measuring blocks. (See: How to log all engine measuring blocks)
If you make your own "at idle" log, make sure the engine has run for at least 10 minutes and complete the log as quick as possible. (Some functions such as EGR change how they work if the car idles for too long, which can be confusing)
Assuming that your machinine is plugged in and the car ignition is on, the first screen looks like this:
Start the engine now
Click select to take you to the control module screen.
This screen shows all the control modules in your car.
Click 01 Engine to go to the engine control unit.
This is the engine control unit screen.
Click Meas Blocks -08. This will take you to the measuring block screen which will display THREE measuring blocks (e.g. Group 001) as shown below.
You can use the UP and DOWN buttons to change the Group.
Set the first group to 001, second group to 002 and third group to 003.
Click "add to log" button.
Now reset groups to 004, 005 and 006.
Click "add to log" button.
Now reset groups to 007, 008 and 009.
Click "add to log" button.
Keep changing the group numbers and clicking add to log. You will see that some measuring blocks (groups) have no useful data so don't log those.
When you have finished. Close everything down and look in the VCDS file on the laptop. You will have a folder called logs with dates. This is a notepad file (.txt). You can re-save this as an excel (.xls) file if you wish.
The following is a log I saved.
I have edited it to take out groups with no real data or text that doesn't help.
The engine has no known faults so the log can be used as a guide for a healthy engine.
