You will have 2 test projects before you can move onto the future device prototype project. You must share the projects with Mrs. Coleman and she will tell you if you are ready to move to the next one. If your prototype meets all the requirements, it will be printed on the 3D printer in the Makerspace. You will share your projects by emailing a link to Mrs. Coleman.
Project #1: Create a key chain with your name on it. Key chain should have include text, at least 3 shapes and a hole.
Project #2: Create a model of a house. It must have windows, a door, be enclosed and include an original feature.
You may work individually or with a partner on this project.
Choose a problem or create your own that you would like to solve.
Create a drawing and write a proposal explaining how your prototype will function and solve the problem. You will create the drawing by hand- including measurements and functionality. You will also write a 2 paragraph proposal about the problem you are solving and the prototype you are developing to solve it. This must be photographed to add to your Student Log (Linked at bottom of this page) and discussed with Mrs. Coleman before moving onto Step 3.
You will now create your prototype in Tinkercad. As you are designing, each class we will have a share out time for you to share your design with the class for feedback.
When your design has been concluded to be functional by Mrs. Coleman and your classmates. You will send the link to Mrs. Coleman for printing!
You will create a display for your 3D printed prototype. This will share the problem you solved and how your prototype solves that problem and explain the challenges you came across in the process. This will be displayed in the school and posted online in the Student Work Gallery.
After watching a series of TED Talks about Design. Students recorded their take-aways about the design process on a Padlet. The results of what they learned are identified in the word cloud below. From what they wrote, what do you think is the most important element of design?
