Restorative Chats
If a student earns a discipline referral and is removed from your classroom, meeting with the student before the next class to complete an informal chat/relationship check-in. Then intentionally welcoming the student back to your classroom.

Motivational Interviewing
Have a one-on-one chat with the student. Use this style of active, reflective listening to guide the student toward "change talk" (vs. "sustain talk), helping them to understand their own problem and buy into a realistic solution.
