Projects

Throughout the year, you can expect to have some projects in French class. These projects vary from the exploration of culture to your demonstration of the language. Some projects require a presentation component as well. You'll find project descriptions located below and on Google Classroom as projects are assigned throughout the year.

Pen Pals

As an 8th grader this year, you'll have a pen pal that lives in France. At the beginning of the year, you'll receive their name. You will have assignments throughout the year that you are to complete for your pen pal. You will find the descriptions of those assignments below as well as on Google Classroom.

September - Pen Pal Letter #1

For this first letter, you are going to write an introductory letter to your pen pal in French. Your letter must be in letter format (see attachment if you don't understand what I mean). It must have at least 2 paragraphs with no fewer than 5 sentences in each paragraph.

Paragraph 1:

Introduce yourself. Include your name, age, and the town you live in (not your full address). Also include a brief physical description of yourself (eye color, hair color, etc.) At least 5 sentences in this paragraph.

Paragraph 2:

Write a bit about the family members that you have and their names. Write about some of your likes and dislikes. At least 5 sentences in this paragraph.

Please include a picture or two. That makes letters so much more interesting.

Your letter must be typed and handed in on Google Classroom by Friday, September 30th. It is worth 10 points in PowerSchool.

NO LATE WORK WILL BE ACCEPTED FOR FULL CREDIT. IF YOUR PEN PAL ASSIGNMENTS ARE LATE, THEY ARE AUTOMATICALLY 1/2 CREDIT. Your pen pal is waiting anxiously for their letter, so there is no late full credit with any of these assignments.

October - Pen Pal Letter #2

For this pen pal correspondence, you are going to be creating a Google Slides presentation that I will send to your pen pal. The topic for this correspondence is: School or HBMS.

Your presentation should have no fewer than 8 slides. In those 8 slides, you need to have pictures of different locations in the school, and you need to have at least 1 sentence for each photo/location about what you do in that class. You are writing your sentences in French. You do not need to be in any of the pictures! Please dedicate one room to a slide. For example: Slide 1 is dedicated to your locker. Slide two is dedicated to the MPR. Your sentence should be on the same slide as the photo.

For example, you can take a picture of your locker. You can title the slide "My Locker" (in French). Then you can write one sentence in French about "There are my backpack and my books in my locker". Please don't complicate your language for this assignment! In the MPR, you can write "I eat lunch with my friends in the MPR".

Some helpful places that you might want to include are: your locker, the MPR, the library, different classrooms, murals, the hallways, and the main office. Please do NOT include the bathrooms.

Please create your Google Slides presentation, then attach it here. I will email them to your pen pals.

Please see Google Classroom for an English example.

I will be emailing your teachers to notify them that this is going on. Please make sure you are taking your pictures during a time when there are no students in the class. No students or teachers should appear in your pictures.

This is due on Monday, October 31st by the start of class.

November - Pen Pal Letter #3

For the November pen pal letter, you are going to be writing a letter in English about the holiday, Thanksgiving!

Requirements:

  • Your letter is in English!

  • Your letter must have 2 paragraphs. Paragraph one talks about the activities that you do for Thanksgiving and who you do them with. Paragraph 2 is talking about the food that you eat or don't eat for Thanksgiving.

  • Your language must be easy to understand. Don't use idiomatic expressions like "it's raining cats and dogs"...your pen pals won't understand that.

  • Your letter must have a minimum of 3 pictures as well. You don't have to be in the pictures, but you can include pictures of you and your family if you want to. Pictures of food, pictures of football, the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, and the Dog Show are all popular pictures that students have included in the past.

  • Your letter MUST be formatted AND titled correctly.

You must...

  • Have at least 8 sentences per paragraph.

  • Have at least 3 pictures

  • Have easy language to understand

  • Have good grammar (names, town, titles of movies/books are all capitalized)

Due Date: Wednesday, November 30th by the start of class.

**Periods 1 and 5 - you don't have class on Wednesday, but your letter is still due by the time that class would start!
