SALARY AND BENEFITS

SALARIES

We value teachers. We invest in our teachers.

Teachers new to San Diego Unified earn competitive wages; for experienced teachers, we provide year for year service credit as well as academic coursework and degrees earned. For new teachers, our salaries are competitive among other large urban school districts.

For 2021-22, starting salaries for teachers range from $50,743.65 (bachelor’s degree, no prior teaching experience) to $107,402.67 (master’s degree, eight years teaching experience, plus additional coursework). Teachers’ salaries increase each year with more experience and educational qualifications.

Your salary step placement, which determines the pay increase given to teachers with prior experience, will be finalized after you are hired. To receive a salary differential, which is a pay increase awarded for additional coursework taken or degrees earned beyond a bachelor’s, you must fill out a separate application after you begin teaching.
