ELA 3-4: Unit 2
How does inequality create conflict?
In Unit 2, students analyze author's style and learn to write analytical paragraphs in preparation for writing a literary analysis essay on the unit novel. They will explore various texts including a novel and shorter texts. They will explore different elements of an author's style through mini-lessons and will keep a style analysis chart to practice analysis and prepare for the final essay. Students will research the historical context of the novel and make connections with the Sustainable Development Goals both in the novel and in their local communities. Finally students will share an oral histories in an exhibition of their learning.
Note: Any novel with similar theme and style may be substituted for The Kite Runner. Some schools use The Kite Runner Graphic Novel for some or all students.
