Ideation

Tell us about your assignment's idea for this week. Why do you care about this idea? What inspired you? (Please include images or links to sources of inspiration)

This week I shall Design a model of a pen and pencil holder Using Fusion 360 for design the pen and pencil holder so that it consists of multiple 2.5D parts (at least three) and assemble them using proper joints or Fabricate the 2.5D parts using Laser Cutting. the pen and pencil holder should contain at least 2 compartments to hold different stationary items (For example, a compartment for pens and the other for sticky notes or paper clips).

I got the main idea from google and Amazon search but i added some assembly ideas as T-slots and screw holes.

Tool Chain

Which software/machines/materials did you use in the assignment? Why?

1- I used pen and paper to draw quick sketch of pens holder.

2- I used Fusion 360 to create the object components by design each part and export as DXF file.

The machine would use is laser cutting

Software: RDWorksV8.
Machine : El Malky ML1390 CO2 Laser Cutter.
Material: Plywood sheet 0.3*30*50 cm.

Design/Preparation Process

Explain the design and/or preparation process of your assignment. How did you use the tool or software to design and/or prepare your assignment before fabrication/implementation?

1- The preparation process started to create sketch on paper using pensile then searching about dimensions on google then open fusion 360 to create sketch  for the design of a pen and pencil holder.

2- I used fusion 360 tools to create the components for each side of the object of a pen and pencil holder by using assembly tools and do joining for all bodies  to be fully defined with dimensions. then I used project tool to draw the base side on the all other sides to be fit with all slots.

3- I exported it with the DXF file to prepare for cutting process.

Development/Implementation Process

Explain the development/implementation process of your assignment. How did you use the machine/tool to manufacture or implement the design of your assignment?

I used Laser cutting machine, the steps as below:-

1- Import DXF file on the RDworks software.

2- Remove not needed lines.

3-Identify the cut parameters. as 25 speed and 60 power.

4-Do simulations to see the way that machine will perform.

5- Download the file to the laser machine by USB.

6-Ideintfy the origin point on the wood sheet.

7- Choose the file from the machine memory.

8- Press the frame to see the size of cutting on the wood sheet.

9- press enter to start the machine process.

Overcoming Challenges

What kinds of challenges or problems did you face while doing the assignment, tutorials, or exercises?  How did you solve them? Did you ask for help from an instructor or peer? Please provide a link to the tutorial or article that you used to solve your problem (if any)

There was a problem in the cutting machine due to frailer in the USB port which not transfer the data from the Laptop to the machine.

Lab specialist Moaz and Abdelrahman was very supportive to find another way to transfer the data by using USB flash memory.

Final Project

How can you use the skills and knowledge that you've acquired this week in your final project?

This skill of create full sketch and do assembly for all components, it would help me to create my final project prototype.
