Summer Runs

Summer runs will start in early June and continue until school starts.  More details will be posted here by the last day of school.

We will meet every Thursday evening(not July 4) at the Harmony Park and Ride on the corner of Harmony Road and I-25 from 6:30pm - 7:30pm.  We will break up in to different running groups based upon ability.  All students who are registered to attend Kinard are welcome to join us.  This is a great opportunity for your incoming students to meet fellow incoming students, our current team and our coaches.  This is intended to be a good time to gather and run together.  This is optional and non evaluatory.   We know families will be traveling and doing other fun activities over the summer and we enourage you to create these memories together.  Join us when you're available.

We will start optional Tuesday morning track workouts at Fossil Ridge High School and Saturday morning long runs at different locations around town starting in mid June.

If you would like to receive emails about runs, weekly running schedules and updates on optional team track workouts and long runs please email Coach Hebert at thebert@psdschools.org.  If you need to contact Coach Hebert you can reach him at 970-566-1111.

Regular Practice Schedule

The official cross country season runs from August through October after school daily from 3:30-5:00 .  Practices start August 8 through August 14 from 3:30-5:00 at Kinard for our camp week.  Official practices start August 15 after school.  We will meet outside the gym on the north side of the building.  We welcome students of all abilities and grade levels.  This is a no cut sport so all students who register will be on the team and able to participate in all meets.  You will need to have a up to date physical form on file with Kinard to practice.  If you have any questions please contact Coach Hebert at thebert@psdschools.org.

Many of our runners participate in others sports including soccer, volleyball, basketball etc.  Running cross country helps build fitness for these other sports which is good.  I will work with kids to allow them to play other sports while running cross country.  It is healthiest for kids to not specialize in just one sport but to participate in a variety of sports and activities.  I understand that for some athletes cross country is not thier main sport but we would still love to have them join us anyway.  I will work with athletes who desire to do another sport in addition to cross country.  For most athletes I will ecourage just one practice a day even if that is not cross country as this helps reduce the risk of injury.

To receive email communication about summer training programs, runs and general updates send me an email at thebert@psdschool.org.

Training Schedule

Starting in June weekly training schedules will be posted for those looking for direction over the summer.   I will email out weekly training schedules during the season.

I have created a Strava account for Kinard Middle School that you can join and start logging miles as a team.  Please join us.

If you need new running shoes the Runners Roost and Altitude Running are both great running stores in town and can help

Some training notes:

We will rotate easy and hard training days with one long run a week.

Long runs can be run on Friday or Saturday whatever works best for you.

Easy days are key and they have to be EASY.  These days should be run very easy.  I run these runs at around 9 minute miles so these runs should be no faster than 8:30 pace for our fastest kids.  Slower is better.
