In the winter of 2018/2019, we decided to ditch our oil furnace and embark on a year-long effort to create a carbon neutral heating solution for our greenhouse. After much research, we decided to build a climate battery to help store heat in the earth under the greenhouse for use during the cold season. With a generous grant from the Maine Community Foundation, lots of student fundraising and excavation help from Total Property Care LLC, we managed to build 3 climate batteries over 2019. Our next goal is to collect detailed data on the functioning of the climate batteries so that others can benefit from our experience
