About Mme Graves

About Me:

Bonjour! Here’s a little something about me. I was born in the Saguenay region of Quebec which is a couple hours north of Quebec City. I only spoke French until I began school in Kindergarten. The only English words I knew when I began school was “yes” and “no”. I guess I can say that I attended “English Immersion” even though it wasn’t called that then. I attended Cegep (college) in Quebec City for a couple years and then moved to Montreal to begin University.

It was during my summer break that I came to visit my aunt and uncle in Blackfalds and fell in love with Alberta, applied for my teaching degree at Red Deer College, and most importantly met my future husband, Byron. Byron and I live on a cattle farm just south of Lacombe and we have three wonderful daughters, Joan, Emily and Olivia.

Two years ago, both Emily and Joan got married and we are very happy to welcome Ferdi and Nigel to our family. On June 16th 2021, Emily and Ferdi became parents to two beautiful little girls, Macy and Myla. Byron and I couldn't be happier and we are enjoying our new role as grandparents.

For 25 years I have been very fortunate to have worked as a teacher and administrator in the Wolf Creek School Division at École J.S. McCormick School and École Upper Elementary School. Three year ago was my first year teaching at École Barrie Wilson School and being part of the Red Deer Public School Division. It was a new journey in my career and I enjoyed it so much that I decided to continue down that path. I'm looking forward to another great year at Barrie Wilson.

When I’m not in the classroom, I love to cook, read, travel and spend time with my family.
