The Joy of Words and Literacy

One of the best ways of improving your vocabulary is by reading for pleasure. There is no better place to begin to understand new words than reading them within the context of a piece of writing. Whether it be a fiction (story) or non-fiction (factual) book, a piece of poetry, a song lyric, a speech, a newspaper report or even a text message, your understanding of what words mean, and how to use them, will be strengthened every time you choose to read.

HOWEVER, there are other ways to improve your vocabulary that are just as effective, and when used alongside reading for pleasure are an incredibly powerful way to support your learning. On this page you will find lots of useful information to help improve not just your reading skills but your literacy and writing skills as well.
