Education for Employment Plan (PI-26)

Pittsville School District PI-26 E4E

What is PI-26? PI-26 or Education for Employment (E4E) is a WI State Law that requires all school districts to develop a plan to “prepare elementary and secondary pupils for employment, to promote cooperation between business and industry and public schools, and to establish a role for public schools in the economic development of Wisconsin.” The Pittsville School District has developed a diverse plan that utilizes input from district staff and community stakeholders. The plan is an important aspect of academic and career planning at Pittsville School District and insures that all students will graduate prepared with knowledge and skills to enter the workforce.

Communication with parents regarding Academic and Career Planning

Through the ACP process, adult support is crucial both in and out of schools. Parents and guardians along with the Pittsville School District aim to work together to help their students be successful both during the school career and after. As communication is key to make this happen, it starts early on. Communication takes place in the following forms:

  • 6th through 8th careers/guidance class
  • Quarterly ACP & district wide newsletter
  • Kindergarten through- 12th individual conferencing with students, parents & counselors
  • 6th through 12th Advising Program
  • Open houses & careers evenings

Meeting the needs of individual students via their completion and review of Academic and Career Plan documents: When seeking to meet the individual needs of students plans, it is completed in two different ways: Advisor Meetings and Counselor Meetings. Advisor and counselor meeting objectives consist of grades, goals, and portfolios. This process allows the student to be separated from the group and held accountable for completion and personalization of their plan on an individualized basis.

Connecting students with staff as they participate in Academic and Career Planning: Two of the primary ways that staff connect with students in the Pittsville School District is through the advising program as well as class curriculum. Through monthly advising lessons in grade levels 6-12, staff give instruction to students ranging from goal setting to course planning to career research. When students meet consistently with advisors through their time in each respective school, rapport is built when discussing future planning.

In addition to this, connections are made during curriculum delivery. In the high school students are required to participate in the PHS CTE Academy. This encompasses two courses: Junior Career & Financial Literacy and Senior Capstone. During the student's junior year they complete three job shadows, explore careers, take career related surveys, learn about a variety of financial aspects, and begin their e-Portfolio. In the student's senior year they complete an internship at a local business as well as work on interviewing, soft skills, resume writing, post-secondary preparation, and complete their e-Portfolio.

Preparing staff to deliver ACP services and support students in their planning: Staff are trained both prior to the school year beginning and throughout the school year. Through general and specific trainings in staff meetings and advising lessons, staff are given specific instructions on both how to deliver the lessons as well as the goals and objectives that need to be reached. This ensures that each student will be receiving the same content to the best of teachers ability.

Students with disabilities participation in the ACP process and the transition planning process: It is a goal in the school district that students with disabilities participate in the ACP process. These students’ futures are as important as students without special needs, so through the process, they are expected to know, explore, plan, and go (as are all students). In conjunction with working with their caseworkers, teachers, counselor, and parents, their plan is formed in the same fashion as other students. During one on one meetings with their teachers and in IEP meetings, students form plans to set themselves up for success both academically and in their career orientations.
