Kara’s Writing Talent Celebrated in Paperboy Magazine

We are incredibly proud to celebrate the success of Kara Wilson, whose powerful piece “Unashamed” has been published in the latest issue of Paperboy magazine.

Kara’s piece, Unashamed, is a thoughtful and confident exploration of the stigma that still surrounds menstruation. Having work selected for publication alongside contributions from established creatives is a fantastic achievement and a wonderful recognition of Kara’s talent as a young writer. It takes confidence, maturity and skill to tackle an important social issue in such a direct and considered way, and Kara has every reason to be extremely proud.

Kara also follows in the footsteps of former pupil Daisy Gibson, who previously had writing published by Paperboy. It is fantastic to see another of our talented young writers gaining recognition beyond the school community.

A huge congratulations to Kara on this outstanding achievement. We hope this is only the beginning of Kara’s journey as a published writer!

On Friday 2nd October 2026, our pupils travelled to Balloch Park to take part in the recent Cross Country event.

It was a fantastic day of competition, with our pupils showing great determination, effort and resilience throughout their races. Their hard work resulted in an impressive collection of Gold, Silver and Bronze medals across several year groups.

A special congratulations goes to our Gold medal winners Harvey, Kian, Lily Anna, Emma, Lewis and Russ, who produced outstanding performances in their respective races. We also had fantastic success from our Silver and Bronze medal winners, making it a brilliant overall result for the school.

We are extremely proud of every pupil who took part, not only for their achievements but also for the way they represented the school throughout the event.

The school will close on Friday 9 October at 3.00pm and reopen on Monday 19 October at 8.50am.

We hope all our pupils, staff and families have a fantastic October break! After a busy first term, it’s time to relax, recharge and enjoy a well-earned rest. Have fun, stay safe, and we’ll see everyone refreshed and ready to go when we return!

The Parent Council helps to create an environment where all parents know that their views matter, and where they feel confident and comfortable putting them forward. They work on behalf of all parents to discuss educational matters that are of importance to all. They do not get involved in individual matters relating to children or staff in the school.

The Student Awards Agency Scotland (SAAS) is offering a series of free online funding talks for pupils considering college or university in 2027/28 and their parents/carers.

Care Experienced Student Funding Talks will take place on 8 October 2026, with Parent and Carer Funding Talks on 13 and 15 October 2026. The sessions will explain the financial support available through SAAS, student loans and the application process, with an opportunity to ask a SAAS Funding Awareness Adviser questions. All sessions will take place online via Microsoft Teams and are free to attend.

Skills Development Scotland (SDS) is the national career service and has careers advisers in every state secondary school in Scotland.

We’re keen to help parents and carers understand our services and kindly ask for your support in helping us share our service messages relevant to this term in school.

To maintain a focused, distraction free learning environment, we operate a strict no phones policy in the classroom. Pupils are expected to keep mobile phones in their bags or in the designated box at all times. If a phone is seen or heard, the following steps will be enforced without discussion or exception: the phone will be placed in the tray, the pupil will be asked to stand outside and receive a mobile phone demerit, and the incident will be escalated to a member of the Senior Leadership Team if necessary.
