About Me and AP US

I have been teaching Advanced Placement United States History for over  15 YEARS At NHS, it has become my passion to help AP students achieve success in the course and on the national examination in May with the hopes of possibly achieving college credit at the university or college of their choice.  The AP US program has had incredible success here at NHS because of the incredible commitment of  students to the course.  In nine of the last ten years, not only has NHS achieved success, but has outdone the national average but double digits , once again a tribute to the hard work of all who have taken the course over the last decade.  For instance, in 2015-2016  73 percent of NHS students who took the course received a 3,4, or 5 besting the national average of only 52 percent by 21 points . NHS had a total of 51 qualifying scores !!! In 2016-2017, 41 out of 57 students received a Qualifying score for an average of 72 percent besting the global average by TWENTY percentage points of 52 percent.  In 2017-2018, we did it again besting the national average by twenty percent with 72 percent of students receiving a 3, 4 or 5 once again with 42 out of 58 students receiving qualifying scores.

I grew up locally in North Attleboro  where I attended my local public schools and knew by my sophomore year in high school that I wanted to teach history and coach basketball for my career. Towards that end, I majored in History at Clark University in Worcester and played Division Three college basketball for the Cougars before moving on to the Boston College where I received my  Masters in Art In Teaching History and also became a lifelong Eagles fan, Ever to Excel , GO EAGLES!

Besides instructing AP US at NHS, I also serve as the Department Head for History and Social Studies for grades 9-12 in the district where I get to lead 7 other committed and dedicated History teachers at  NHS.  I also serve as the Boys Varsity Basketball coach entering my 23rd season in that position this winter.  Finally, I also get to work with the district's new teachers along with my fellow co-coordinator as the District's coordinator for Mentoring and Teacher Induction.  So, I guess you can see my passions are  teaching American History, coaching  basketball, and working with new teachers, they have defined my experience at Norton High School !!
