Navy Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (NJROTC)

About Us

The Gaithersburg High School NJROTC program is a Federal Program sponsored by the United States Navy. The NJROTC Program goals are to instill in high school students the value of leadership.  These goals are met by teaching to specific objectives based on the core values of the United States Navy:  HONOR, COURAGE, and COMMITMENT.  

This program encompasses leadership elective courses offered to students who attend Gaithersburg, Watkins Mill, Rockville, Richard Montgomery, and Quince Orchard High Schools.  

Students learn about the customs and courtesies of the Navy, as well as leadership, citizenship, maritime sciences, and naval history.  Cadets have the opportunity to join competitive teams, earn Student Service Learning (SSL) hours, attend field trips, and volunteer in many community events.  The unit provides cadets with a uniforms, physical fitness gear, textbooks, and other resource materials.  The Senior Naval Science Instructor (SNSI) is Captain Robert Mitton, USN (ret) and the Naval Science Instructor (NSI) is Chief Eric Watson, USN (ret).
