Let's Learn Some History!

Mrs. Barto, 8th Grade Social Studies

I am honored to passionately teach American History at the 8th grade level! We will begin with the European discovery of the Americas, make our way through the American Revolution, Constitution, Westward Expansion, Civil War, and finally end the year with Reconstruction of the South. Buckle up, we're in for a rewarding, puzzling, exciting, regretful, decisive, proud, inspiring, hurtful, tremendous, wild ride as we dive heart first into our American past from a vast amount of perspectives. In this class, you'll not only learn how history relates to you as 8th graders in modern America but also real life skills you'll need regardless of where you go after your formal education ends. I LOVE history because it allows us to reflect on who we are and who we want to be. What are your values? Let's find out together...are you ready for it? (Yes, that was a Taylor Swift reference...there'll be many of those as well, for better or for worse!) I hope you're as excited as I am!!!!!!!!! Let's GO!!!!!

So...who is this person anyway?!

Hello!! My name is Mrs. Brooke Bartoszek (pronounced "bar-toe-z-ik") but most of the kids call me Mrs. Barto!

I am a Colorado native and obsessed with sports. I am also quite fond of my beautiful family: my husband Eric and our two daughters Stella (10 years old) and Quinn (2 year olds). My husband is the head coach of the Rock Canyon High School Girls Basketball team and he owns a basketball skills training company. I am lucky we both love what we do!

I am so proud to teach in the district where I grew up and my daughter now attends. I graduated from Heritage in 2008, then I earned my bachelor's degree in History Education at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, and finally my master's degree in Education Policy & Administration from Dakota Wesleyan University. The 2023-2024 school year will mark my 10th year of teaching and my 5th year at Newton.

I love going to Red Rocks Church and enjoy the outdoors, food, and spending time with family and friends. My family enjoys exploring different parts of our beautiful state and the things that pass through. Education and kids are some of the most important things in my life.  I strongly believe asking "Why?!" is one of the most fun and important things we get to do in school! Learning is a never-ending, life-long passion of mine and I cannot wait to share that journey with you!
