Physical, Personality Match

Physical and personality traits can often be a clue to whether a particular instrument is right for a particular student.  Click the instrument below to see what physical characteristics are preferable for each instrument.  Personality traits of each instrument are noted beside the instrument link.  Physical and personality matches are not always a perfect science, but since students are unable to physically try instrument before selecting this year, more weight should be put into these factors.

Flute: studious, attention to detail

Clarinet: hard worker, not easily flustered

Saxophone: easy going, strong

Trumpet: confident, enjoys the spotlight

French horn: loves challenge, independent, good singer

Trombone: relaxed, long arms, speaks with clear "t's"

Euphonium: easy going, chill, ok with larger instrument

Tuba: good ear, leader, medium-to tall height, strong

Percussion: responsible, multi-tasker, flexible, good rhythm
