We Love It! But Why? (Or, What Makes It So Good?)

For this assignment you will select a scene from a film or television show that you feel illustrates creative and quality filmmaking and storytelling.

Start by creating a Shot-By-Shot Breakdown of the video clip or film scene you wish to analyze. Watch through the video noting the total running time (TRT ex: 1 minute 25 seconds or 01:25) of the clip. Then rewatch the video pausing the video to take note of interesting and eye-catching aspects of the clip. Note the length of each shot, the change in shot type/size/angle, and anything else that you feel is noteworthy. This will help you to provide more specific and detailed examples in your written analysis.

Then, fill out the attached worksheet. You may wish to include images/screen captures to help illustrate your ideas.

Conclude your analysis of why you think that this is a good example of filmmaking/storytelling. Make an argument for the video you’ve selected.

You must answer each question in complete sentences.

Be sure to provide a link to the video in your analysis.
