8th Grade Social Studies

Welcome to 8th Grade American History (1865-the present). This is the second year of a two-year sequence that prepares students for further study of American History at the high school level. I am sure that you will find 8th grade to be a rewarding experience. I am here to make sure that students achieve their potential while they enjoy learning about American History.

Eighth grade focuses on American History that dates from Reconstruction to current events. Topics to be discussed will begin with a short unit on geography and then a quick review of the Civil War and move into Reconstruction. We will study immigration, industrialization, several wars, the Great Depression, and America’s role in the modern world. Students will be required to complete several small projects; some individual and some group projects. Students in 8th grade will be required to successfully show proficiency on a new NYS Regents exam format. The 8th Grade exam this year will reflect the new format.
