9th English

Welcome to English 9. This course is designed to prepare you for the rest of your English classes at Standley Lake and the world beyond.  We will be looking at a variety of types of literature, and will apply our understanding of the texts to the world we live in through writing, speeches, conversation, and presentations.

Standley Lake High School is an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School offering both the IB Middle Years Program (MYP) and the IB Diploma Program.  While our diploma program serves a cohort of 11th and 12 graders, the Middle Years Program serves all of our students, inclusive of all interests and academic abilities.

This class incorporates the MYP framework to help our students become active, compassionate learners.  By making practical connections between what they learn in this course and the real world, we can help them become responsible participants in local, national, and global communities.

For more information on the MYP program and its framework, please consult the IB page on our website. By signing this syllabus, you are also acknowledging your participation in the MYP and its principles and practices.

All coursework for this class will be housed in Google Classroom. Handouts and assignments will only be found there and students should also check in when they have been absent for any recent posts or work.

Academic Honesty Policy

Students are expected to have integrity in their coursework and complete their own work. Plagiarism and academic dishonesty will not be tolerated, including copying from the internet, AI, or other students, turning in multiple submissions, or not giving credit to sources.

This class will cover correct usage of websites and sources to help students avoid intentional or unintentional plaigiarim issues.

Please see the SLHS Academic Honesty Policy for more information.

Chromebook Expectations:

Every day! Every class! CHARGED!

Chromebooks are to be used as a learning tool. LanSchool is on every chromebook allowing the teacher to control and monitor student use. Inappropriate use will result in consequences.

Inappropriate Use of Technology Within the Classroom:

If students engage in the “inappropriate” use of electronics within the class, then their right to use these devices in the future will be removed.

The tech fee must be paid to print from school.

Chromebook classroom activities will allow for students to peer-edit, research, create, collaborate, develop, and overall demonstrate higher order thinking skills. At times, headphones will be required so that the learning of one student does not interfere with the learning of another student.
