More about Me

I absolutely love teaching first grade! Every day is filled with wonder, excitement, and so much learning.   They are eager to learn, excited to please, and are at such an impressionable age. Every day I will work to help each child feel valued, loved, and part of our team.   Another goal is that your child not only is the best reader they can be by the end of the year, but also that I've instilled a deep love for learning in them.

I've spent the past thirteen years in first grade but have also taught 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade.   My knowledge of where students are heading helps me to differentiate and challenge your child to keep progressing in their skills. I belive in hands-on activities as well as authentic learning tasks that keep studets engaged.   Our classroom is always buzzing with conversation, games, and laughter.

Let's work as a team this year to help your child be successful.  Always let me know if there is anything I can do to help accomplish your child's goals for the year.

Let's make this a great 2023-2024 school year, because we truly are better together!

Being able to watch 1st graders grow and become confident readers, writers, and deep math thinkers is part of the joy of being a first grade teacher.  They come into first writing one sentence and by the end of the year they are writing whole paragraphs with detailed sentences.  I also watch them progress into readers that can pick up any picture book and have the decoding skills to not only read it, but understand the elements of the text.  They start with the knowlege of one digit numbers and work into the hundreds by the end of the year.   My job is to provide sequential lessons that are differentiated to meet the needs of each student.  It is a joy to watch them grow and become so confident in all of these 1st grade skills.

When you step into my classroom, you will see:

Risk Taking

Growth Mindset Conversations

Community Building

A Positive Classroom Culture

Engaging Lessons

Differentiated Instruction to meet the needs of each student to promote daily growth and challenges

Lots of lots of celebrations

Lifting each other up

Laughter and fun
