HungarianLand

Land purchase

To the great happiness of the community, the Hungarian American Association of  Washington bought its own lot in Cle Elum in 2020. Since the foundation of the association (1984), it was the dream and the desire of the members to possess our own "home" at some point. According to the General Assembly held January 18, 2020, the lot of Cle Elum was a meaningful investment of the money the association separated for property purchase. There is still a lot of work and dedication required in order for the plot to fulfill the function of "a home", but the first step has already been taken. We became owners of a beautiful 7.85 acre (31768 m2) parcel of land. This is an exciting first step on the path that will lead us to the realization of a Hungarian House.

We named the place MagyarFöld, or HungarianLand. The property is located 70 minutes from Seattle, accessible from exit 78 off Interstate 90. The plot is a huge area covered with trees and bushes - like an island of peace. Here you can calmly enjoy nature and the view of surrounding mountain ridges and snow-capped mountains is wonderful.

Progress of Parcel Development

The affairs of the plot are managed by the Maintenance and Development Committee. Thanks to the scouts and volunteers of the association, the area has already been beautified a lot. The work started with brush removal and fire safety measures, but now the railing and the barrier at the entrance, which are embellished by two small headstones, have been completed.  A storage container, a mobile toilet, and bird feeders were set up, and the parking lot was completed, which can accommodate up to 20-25 cars in the summer.

The scout hut was also built! This is a two-story wooden building, which is not yet in its final form according to our dreams, but it is already in usable condition.

The zip line (ZIPLINE: 200 feet = 66 meters), benches, and tables are still under construction.

Future Plans

The electricity provider has replaced the electricity pole on the lot, so all that remains is to install the electric meter and a few other small things before the electricity supply will be guaranteed.

The other most important task to be solved in the near future is water supply. Although there is a well drilled on the lot with plenty of water and the irrigation canal system also runs through the lot, the operation of the water supply and water usage rights must be acquired in order to be able to use the water.

In order to finance these vital infrastructure developments, we are organizing an online auction in February-March 2023.

Please join our group of supporters! We are appealing for your financial contributions and in-kind donations of auction items, but we are hoping for your visit to HungarianLand even more! If we managed to make you curious, pay us a visit! We look forward to seeing you!
