Class Objectives:

The goal of this course is to create an environment that allows the students to learn and develop the skills necessary to make healthy and informed decisions. Students will leave this class with an understanding of basic health concepts.


Course Content:

  • The nutritive value of foods and the relation of nutrition to health.

  • The harmful effects of and legal restrictions against the use of drugs, alcoholic beverages, and tobacco.

  • Prescription opioid abuse prevention, the prescription drug epidemic, the relationship between prescription opioid abuse and addiction to other drugs.

  • Discussion on personal, mental and emotional health.

  • First Aid, Safety, and CPR procedures.

  • Endocrine and reproductive health

  • Cardiovascular, Respiratory and Digestive systems

  • Anatomy


Student Responsibilities:

  • Be Prepared! Students will need to bring pencils, pens and a notebook or binder to class each day.

  • Be on time to class! Make sure you are in the classroom before the bell rings.

  • Never leave the class without permission.

  • All electronic devices should be turned off and put away. If they are heard or out without permission, they will be taken away.

  • Be respectful


Grading Policy and Breakdown:

Students grades will be a cumulative total of all points received throughout the semester. Points will be given for participation, homework, in class assignments, tests/quizzes and projects. Make-up work will be accepted in compliance with the school policy. Students are responsible for communicating any absences and need for missed assignments.
