Sixth Grade Mathematics

We will begin using the Math in Focus series for Sixth Grade Math this year. Our textbook is Math in Focus Course 1. Students who successfully complete Course 1 will be well prepared for Pre-Algebra in seventh grade, and those who do exceptionally well may be offered a position in Honors Algebra 1 in seventh grade.

• Whole numbers, prime numbers, and prime factorization

• Number lines and negative numbers

• Fractions and decimals

• Ratio

• Rates and speed

• Percent

• Algebraic expressions

• Equations and inequalities

• The coordinate plane

• Area of polygons

• Surface area and volume of solids

• Introduction to statistics

• Measures of central tendency and variability
