Course Description:

Students in this course will be able to describe ideas in more detail. They will use more complex grammatical structures, building on the skills developed in Spanish I and Spanish II. They will extend their language skills by becoming more accurate in the language they produce, comprehending a greater variety of texts, generating responses and initiating interactions in the language in more complete ways. They will recognize language to expand knowledge of other content areas and gain awareness of multiple viewpoints.

Course Objectives:

The objectives for Spanish IB are based on the the Curriculum of the International Baccalaureate Corporation

Course Outline:

This outline is intended as a guide only in assisting the teacher in planning. Each unit will last around 9 weeks. When necessary adjustments may be made to the material covered.

Unidad 1 – La rutina diaria/The Daily Grind

Unidad 2 – El concepto de moda y belleza/ The Concept of Style and Beauty

Unidad 3 - El medio ambiente y nosotros/ The Environment and Us

Unidad 4 – Las dificultades del mundo moderno/ The Challenges of the Modern World

Required Materials:

Text: Galeria Hispanica and Points of Departure (Conversaciones en Espanol)

Suggested Materials

Notebook: A three-ring binder or notebook that can be easily divided into sections.

3x5 index cards (optional): Strongly recommended for the practice of vocabulary. While tedious, rote memorization is very important to the acquisition of any world language.

Grading:

40% Minor grades

60% Major grades

Assignments:

Work done in class is vital to the student’s success in this class. Occasionally homework will be assigned. It is expected that you complete assignments in order to apply new and recycled concepts.

Attendance:

WHS attendance policies will be followed.

Tardiness:

Students are expected to arrive to class on time, in accordance with school policy. If you’re tardy 1st period, report to attendance for a pass. Periods 2-7, tardy students report to Mr. Dye in room 141.

Make-up Work/ Redo Policy:

All make-up work/ assignments/ class notes are the responsibility of the student. I will not ask for them.

Extra help and tutoring:

I am available for tutoring before school and during lunch by appointment.

Cheating/Plagiarism:

Students copying assignments or cheating on tests will not be given credit for their work. Parents and/or administration will be informed. Plagiarism (stealing the ideas/words/work of another and passing them off as one’s own) will not be tolerated and will result in a failing grade. First offense, students will receive a 0% and a phone call home. Second offense, students will receive a 0%, a phone call home and a referral to the grade level administrator.
