About Mrs. Uhl

Facts about me...

I am excited to be your child's teacher this year.  My standards are high; however, I will work individually with your child to help him/her achieve their goals.  I look forward to a successful and rewarding year.  I love my students and feel they excel when they are happy and comfortable with what is going on around them.  Thank you in advance for helping make this an exciting and productive year!

I'm originally from Iowa (GO HAWKEYES!). I graduated with honors from Mankato State University in Mankato, Minnesota, with a Bachelors of Science degree in Elementary Education and a minor in Math. I received my Masters of Education degree from Southern Wesleyan University and have completed my Masters Plus 30 Graduate Hours level.  I achieved National Board Certification and am a Teacher Consultant for Clemson's Upstate Writing Project. I continue to be a Lifelong Learner. I acquired my Writing Specialist Certification through Clemson University and most recently obtained my Gifted Education endorsement through Converse College.

This is my 25th year at Buena Vista ~ I've spent 23 of those years in 5th grade working with enthusiastic, fun-loving independent learners.  This is such an important year in your child's life, and I feel extremely honored to be an influential part of it.

I love "hands-on activities!  I was a Summer Institute Fellow at Clemson University's Upstate Writing Project, Writing by the Ready. Writing is one of my passions. I have also attended the Science P.L.U.S. Institute at Roper Mountain Science Center, David Langford's Quality Learning Seminar, the Upstate Summer Institute for Teaching American History in South Carolina, the Holocaust Institute at Furman University, and the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) Institute for Children's Engineering at Clemson University.  I completed Making Literacy Relevant: Integrating Pop Culture and Technology in the Classroom, Developing Literacy and the Traits of Writing in the Writing Workshop Classroom, and Using Poetry with Young Writers through Clemson University to receive my Writing Specialist Certification.  I also attended the advanced Greenville County Arts Integration Training Institute.  I love to incorporate the ARTS into my classroom.
