What is IB?
IB stands for International Baccalaureate. The International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) was established in 1968 and is a non-profit, international educational foundation.
What is the Primary Years Program?
The IB Primary Years Program is a rigorous, inquiry based program for students in grade K4 through fifth grade. It is a place for learning-about ourselves and about the world around us. Our school offers a standards-based curriculum with an international perspective. We teach our students through guided inquiry using a framework designed by the International Baccalaureate Organizations Primary Years Programme (PYP).
As part of the PYP, students participate in six transdiciplinary themes:
- Who we are
- Where we are in place and time
- How we express ourselves
- How the world works
- How we organize oursleves
- Sharing the planet
What do we want students to learn?
The PYP has constructed a set of eight key concepts which answer the question: what do we want to the students to learn?
- Form- What is it like?
- Function: How does it work?
- Causation: Why is it like it is?
- Change: How is it changing?
- Connection: How is it connected to other things?
- Perspective: What are the points of view?
- Responsibility: What is our responsibility?
- Reflection: How do we know?
What do we want students to be able to do?
To help students construct meaning and understnadin, the IB works on students' acquiring and applying a range of skills including:
- Social Skills
- Thinking Skills
- Research Skills
- Communication Skills
- Self-Managment Skills
What are the IB attitudes?
Each month, Chandler Creek focuses on an IB attitude of the month. The attitudes are a key piece to our school behavior system and include:

IB Learner Profile
The IB learned profile is the IB mission statement translated into a set of learning outcomes for the 21st century.
