RTI = Response to Intervention

RTI is a research-based, systematic program that provides an extra level of support in reading for primary students who need it.  Students in K5 and 1st grade are screened using an assessment tool called FastBridge during the fall of each school year and eligibility is determined primarily based on results from that. Fastbridge measures specific areas of reading such as fluency, accuracy, identification of letters and sounds, and blending and decoding words. Other measurements are often considered, such as the student's Fountas and Pinnell reading level, grades, MAP scores, and any previous support the student may have received with RTI. Typically, eligible students meet with a Reading Interventionist in a small group setting for approximately 30 minutes per day, 4-5 days per week.
